What Is IBS

There are basically four different types of Irritable Bowel Syndrome:

IBS-D

This is the most common type of IBS. The D stands for Diarrhea, because for this type of IBS, diarrhea is the most prominent symptom among the other possible symptoms of IBS; such as stomach pain, bloating, flatulence or nausea.

IBS-C

The C stands for constipation because constipation is the most prominent symptom among the other possible symptoms of IBS; such as stomach pain, bloating, flatulence or nausea.

IBS-M

The M stands for Mixed because for those of you who suffer from this type of IBS, your bowel habits alternate between diarrhea and constipation.

IBS-U

The U stands for Unspecified because there is no prominent symptom of the IBS.

These subgroups of IBS are really just a simple way of very briefly describing a part of your experience of your Irritable Bowel Syndrome. IBS is a simple way to describe a group of varying symptoms and feelings which individual people like you experience in their own way.

Each subgroup of IBS isn’t exact or distinct. The prominent symptom of your IBS may change over time from one to the other.

Your experience of IBS is unique to you at any given time. I developed the Peter McMahon IBS Solution to deal with the different physical, mental and emotional aspects of your IBS which you experience as a person; not a label or sub-category of those symptoms you experience.

That having been said, knowing which of these categories applies to you can be useful in helping you focus on a particular tool or technique for you to take control of your health.
